Bio

Gemma Goday is a freelance flutist in both modern and historical flutes now based in Valencia (Spain). She recently received her Doctor of Musical Arts diploma from the University of Washington (Seattle, WA), where she studied with Professor Donna Shin.

She is the flute soloist, founding member, and artistic operations manager of Grup Mixtour, a modern ensemble, which looks for a new conception of the classical concert form. As founder of Il Viaggio, a chamber music ensemble on period instruments, she looks for an active communication with the audience, together with the highest quality of performance.

She holds three Bachelor degrees: flute performance from the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Zaragoza (Spain), Baroque flute performance from the Koninklijk Conservatorium (The Hague, Netherlands) and French Philology from the Universidad de Alicante (Spain). She studied a Master of Early Music in Baroque flute performance at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya in Barcelona (Spain). Gemma has received valuable input from Kate Clark, Wilbert Hazelzet, Marc Hantaï, Kersten McCall and Lorenzo Coppola.

Gemma has more than 10 years of experience as flute instructor. Furthermore, she has given lectures on the historical development of the flute together with a concert in several music conservatories and festivals in Washington State and the Valencian area (Spain). She is on the flute faculty at the Conservatorio Profesional de Música “Francesc Peñarroja” in La Vall d’Uixó (Spain).
